Bernie Sanders' epic tax cut filibuster rant (Salon)

Bernie Sanders' epic tax cut filibuster rant

On CSPAN, six hours after all first take the podium to sabotage against tax cut much autour 10: 25 Friday morning, Senator Bernie Sanders, VT I-., is still talking. CSPAN subtitle is "United States Senate: cuts & unemployment tax benefit", but for the last few minutes, it was blasting political trade disadvantage American workers.

But it is perfect. His epic rant - may be one of the most extraordinary reviews how the US economy has been managed since several decades delivered in living memory - is an endless sequence of linking indignation points to another. Even though I wrote this article, he had effortlessly from trade policy to Wall Street.

"But it is not only a disastrous trade policy has brought us where we are today." The immediate cause of the crisis and he gets me just ill talk... is what made the crooks on Wall Street to the American people. »

Sanders and then provides a capsule history of deregulation, blasts Alan Greenspan, note that in the end of the 1990s it had predicted everything arrived eventually, but failed to garner support legislation to stop racing car - "and the rest is, unfortunately, history."

Then a sideswipe class war: "Understanding, that in this country when you are a leader on Wall Street - you can do pretty much anything you want and get it."

"And what they did to the American people is so horrible.

For bailing out! Defiance is caustic, might disintegrate an aircraft carrier: "we rescued these guys because they were too big failed and now three of the four largest banks are now even more important."

When great oration of the Sanders enters its seventh time, he cannot, by its very nature, summarize. This is a hike, a rant, a criticism, a cry of rage, a cry of despair and a call to action. And it is incredible. I've heard stories of obstruction that Senators read phone books. And I looked at with disgust that for years that Republicans simply threatened to sabotage, without ever really be forced to exercise their vocal cords. But Bernie Sanders, seven hours, calling for banks more to be broken, voice still hale and hearty and looking like it could easily go to an another seven hours.

Give credit to Vermont citizens who know elect someone step fear of the truth to power.

Note: An earlier version of this post incorrectly interpreted references of "Sir" to President Obama instead of Senate President pro TEM Sanders.
