Stocks end mostly lower Thursday, after the Government reported an increase in applications for unemployment benefits last week. Retailers falls after weak December their turnover.
The Dow Jones industrial average falls 25.58 points, or 0.2 percent, close to the 11,697.31.
Standard & poor 500 index fell 2.71 or 0.2%, to 1,273.85.
The Nasdaq composite index rose vast, or 0.3%, to 2,709.89.
For the week and year to date:
The Dow Jones index is 119.80, or 1 per cent.
S & P is 16,21, or 1.3%.
The Nasdaq is 57.02 or 2.1%.
