None of the landmark Hotel Niagara in NY bids to sell at auction (AP)

NIAGARA FALLS, New York - several prospective buyers show at the auction of foreclosure on a landmark hotel in downtown Niagara Falls, New York, but none was willing to meet the minimum offer of $ 1 million set by the Texas State Bank.

The Hotel Niagara 12 storeys, 193-room opened in 1925 and has had many owners, most recently base Houston Amidee Hotel Niagara. The company declared bankruptcy Chapter 7 Texas last September, two years after the purchase at the hotel of $ 4.6 million and it closed for renovations that were never completed.

The hotel is located near the famous waterfalls. It is treated by local officials as a key piece in ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown.

Press reports that Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio stayed at the hotel during the filming of "niagara" in 1952.

The auction was held Thursday at City Hall.
