WASHINGTON - federal regulatory agencies have appointed Washington lawyer and former official James Doty at the head of the independent Commission which oversees the accounting industry.
The Securities and Exchange Commission Friday, announced the appointment of Doty as Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, created by Congress in 2002 in response to the scandals that began with Enron. The SEC oversees the Accounting Board, also appointed Jay Hanson Executive firm accountant and Attorney Lewis Ferguson to fill vacancies on the Board of five members.
Doty, who has represented companies in securities law cases was general counsel of the SEC from 1990 to 1992.
The Council on accounting under a President acting since July 2009. The Commission has the power to discipline accountants. Its activities are funded by fees on public companies.
