DETROIT - the Volt's Chevrolet won the car of North American 2011 of the year at the Detroit auto show.
The Ford Explorer has won the truck of the year.
Awards were announced on Monday morning, the first day of previews of media for entertainment.
The finalists for the price of the car were the Volt, Hyundai Sonata and Nissan leaf. Truck finalists were the Dodge Durango, Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Forty-nine automatic journalists from the United States and the Canada made the choice. The vehicles are judged on innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value.
Price is often used by automotive manufacturers in advertising.
